Helicopter pilot training
There is no maximum age limit for applying for a PPL (H). The minimum age to start PPL (H) flight training is 14 years, however you have to be 16 years of age to fly solo and 17 before you can apply for your licence.
HeliAce can offer successful training programs providing you with the highest standard of pilot training, with our highly experienced flight instructors supporting you from your first lesson, through to your final test and beyond. Whether its with the view of a new career, or simply as a hobby, we can arrange courses to suit your specific requirements, and get you on your way to being Helicopter Pilot.
We can also facilitate type rate training, night qualification courses, LPC’s and advanced training.
PRIVATE PILOT'S LICENCE (H)
To a gain a Private Pilots License (Helicopter) you will be required to complete a course including the following:
- A minimum of 45 hours flight time - 10 hours of which must be solo flight and 5 hours of which will be instrument training.
- 7 Ground exams - multiple choice question exams on the following subjects:
- Air Law
- Meteorology
- Human Performance
- Radio Telephony
- Helicopter Technical
- Navigation
- Flight Planning
- You must obtain a Class 2 medical certificate
- You must obtain a Radio Telephony Licence
- Finally you must complete a solo ‘Cross Country’ qualifying flight and skills test

LPC (LICENCE PROFICIENCY CHECK)
PPL (H) Pilots require an LPC once a year for each type on licence. Our operations department can arrange your LPC to fit in with your schedule. Please call our Operations Department or email gemma@heliace.co.uk for more information.
TYPE RATE TRAINING
If you already have your PPL (H) you may wish to accomplish flying a different type of machine. TRT courses may suit your requirements, including conversions to R44, Bell 206 Jetranger & Enstrom 480.
Each type conversion requires a minimum of five hours training with your personal flight instructor, a multiple choice exam and a flight test with a CAA approved examiner.

REFRESHER COURSES & ADVANCED TRAINING
You may feel you need some flight revision lessons, or perhaps you want to practice a more advanced manoeuvre, such as auto-rotation, advanced navigation exercises, confined area landings, or even the London Heli-Lanes.
We have instructors on hand 7 days a week, so whether it is further instruction you require, or simply a little advice, we are happy to help, after all everyone needs a refresher now and again!
